The New Materials Science and Technology Park has won the “Innovation Excellence” award for the first time.

On October 30th, at the 2025 China Chemical Park Development Conference, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation released the list of chemical parks with competitive advantages during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. The New Materials Science and Technology Park was awarded the title of “Innovative and Outstanding Chemical Park”, and only the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park and the Nanjing Jiangbei New Materials Science and Technology Park received this honor across the country.
In the ranking of individual indicators, the New Materials Science and Technology Park ranks among the top in terms of petrochemical operating income, total petrochemical profit, cumulative fixed asset investment, land operating income output rate, and land fixed asset investment rate.

After ranking second on the list of “Top 30 High-Quality Development Chemical Parks in China” for four consecutive years, this time, the New Materials Science and Technology Park has been awarded the title of “Innovative and Outstanding Chemical Park” for its outstanding innovative performance, marking that the park’s innovative achievements and development experience have been widely recognized by the industry.
Today, the New Materials Science and Technology Park has gathered over a hundred manufacturing enterprises, including more than 20 Fortune 500 companies and top 50 chemical enterprises such as Sinopec, BASF and Celanese. The park has built five characteristic industrial clusters, namely epoxy and its derivatives, acetic acid and its derivatives, high-end specialty chemicals, synthetic materials, and life sciences, around the two leading industrial chains of petrochemicals and carbon. The scale of the leading industries, the degree of project agglomeration, the level of safety and environmental protection, and the degree of regional intensification all rank among the top of similar parks in the country. The scale of many characteristic industries is at the leading position both domestically and globally.

Last year, the Yangzi Yangba Light Hydrocarbon Comprehensive Utilization Project and the Jinling Petrochemical High-End Daily Chemical Products Project, both with an investment of over 10 billion yuan, started construction. The Nanjing Chengzhi propylene value Chain project achieved the goal of “starting construction and going into production in the same year”.

This year, the park has further accelerated its construction pace to boost the quality and speed of projects. By the end of September, all major new projects at the provincial and municipal levels had started construction. The Henghe High-End Sanitary Materials Project, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan, went from project approval to construction in just over four months, setting a new record for the “latest speed” of chemical project construction. Focusing on the country’s major strategies and market demands for precise investment promotion, by the end of September, the park had completed the signing of 47 projects in total, among which 28 projects had an investment of over 100 million yuan. It actively promoted the signing and implementation of a batch of high-quality projects in new energy materials, specialty chemicals, and new chemical materials.

As an “innovative and outstanding chemical industrial park”, innovation is the lifeline that runs through the New Materials Science and Technology Park and the core engine driving high-quality development. Especially in aspects such as industrial renewal and upgrading, smart park construction, and the establishment of an integrated research and production innovation ecosystem, the park has transformed the “variable” of innovation into the “increment” of high-quality development.
In September, the Chemical Park Working Committee of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation announced the list of selected typical cases of smart chemical parks during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and the New Materials Science and Technology Park was included.
In terms of the construction of smart parks, the New Materials Science and Technology Park has deployed a situation awareness network covering the entire area, achieving real-time monitoring and data aggregation in aspects such as safety, environmental protection, energy, and logistics. It has completely broken down the information barriers among various systems and realized seamless data flow and business collaboration across departments and levels.

Meanwhile, the park also took the lead in establishing the Nanjing Jiangbei New Materials Industry Innovation Alliance. At this year’s New Materials Industry Innovation and Development Conference and the Annual meeting of the New Materials Industry Innovation Alliance, 12 research institutes and enterprises became new members of the innovation alliance. Up to now, the New Materials Industry Innovation Alliance has jointly tackled over 20 projects, achieved the transformation of more than 40 research results, gathered nearly a thousand R&D personnel, and established a number of high-level innovation platforms, significantly enhancing the overall competitiveness of the industrial chain.
Relying on the innovation alliance, we have discovered more market values in key areas such as high-end fine chemicals, electronic chemicals, bio-based materials, and high-performance composite materials, and have formed a series of brand-new chains that connect basic theories and industrial applications. The relevant person in charge of the New Materials Science and Technology Park said.

Another major project in the park – the pilot plant base – has seen the topping out of 18 individual buildings including the factory buildings and office buildings. The first phase of the pilot base, covering an area of 47,000 square meters, has been fully booked. It will gather 14 resident enterprises and be led by five academicians to carry out pilot projects of multiple cutting-edge technologies including advanced electronic materials, special engineering plastics, and biomanustering. It is dedicated to developing transformative and disruptive industrialization complete sets of technologies for new chemical materials.
Looking ahead to the “15th Five-Year Plan”, the New Materials Science and Technology Park will continue to be driven by innovation, constantly improve supporting facilities and services, optimize the industrial ecosystem, promote the implementation and transformation of more high-quality projects, continuously enhance its comprehensive strength, and strive forward with the goal of building a “world-class new materials park”.
