On August 26th, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between the new district and Nanjing University was held. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lu Weidong, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Party Secretary of Jiangbei New Area and Party Secretary of Pukou District, attended and delivered speeches. Nanjing University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a high-level university that is a key construction target of the “211 Project” and the “985 Project”. It has always been among the top universities in China and has gained recognized social influence and academic reputation. Nanjing University currently has 16 disciplines under the “Double First-Class” initiative, including Chemical Engineering and Technology and Biology. Eight disciplines, such as Chemistry and Clinical Medicine, have entered the top one-thousandth globally in the ESI. Since the establishment of Jiangbei New Area, the new area has been closely cooperating with Nanjing University: the second phase platform of Nanzhi Optoelectronics led by Academician Zhu Shining is under full construction. A number of scientific research platforms, such as the largest national genetic engineering mouse resource bank in Asia and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Life and Health, are flourishing. The group of listed companies under the “Nanjing University Group”, such as Yaoshi Technology, Jicui Yaokang, and Yaojie Ankang, continues to grow. The key industrial layout of the new district is closely integrated and mutually reinforcing with the first-class scientific research strength of Nanjing University, providing a solid support for the in-depth cooperation between the two sides.
During the event, the new district signed strategic cooperation agreements and special cooperation agreements with Nanjing University. According to the cooperation agreement, both sides will fully leverage their advantages in scientific and technological talent and intellectual resources as well as regional development advantages Cooperation will be carried out in aspects such as “jointly promoting the construction of Nanjing University campus, building a high-level innovation technology research and development platform, establishing the Nanjing University National University Science Park Jiangbei New Area, jointly building the Jiangbei New Area Base of Nanjing University Outstanding Engineers College, expanding cooperation with Jiangsu Provincial Industrial Technology Research Institute, and accelerating the cluster development of ‘Nanjing University System’ enterprises” And focus on the four specialized fields of “building the main battlefield of chemical, biological and pharmaceutical disciplines, empowering the Yangtze River Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Pilot Zone, jointly building a high-level scientific research facility sharing service platform, and accelerating the basic construction of the campus” to deepen cooperation solidly, making greater contributions to both sides’ firm commitment to fulfilling the national mission and taking the lead in serving Jiangsu as a major economic province.
Tan Zhemin said that since the construction of the Pukou Campus of Nanjing University began in 1987, it has forged an unbreakable bond with Jiangbei. The two sides have advanced hand in hand and pursued each other, achieving a series of development results and laying a solid foundation for further moving in the same direction and deepening cooperation. The signing of this strategic cooperation agreement is an important measure for both sides to enhance friendship and deepen cooperation, and it also marks a new chapter in their strategic cooperation. Nanjing University will further align with the actual demands of Jiangbei New Area and strive to create a new pattern of deep integration and synchronous high-quality development of the new area’s campuses. We look forward to both sides continuing to work hand in hand and forge ahead with one heart in promoting the integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, attracting and cultivating high-level talents, building high-quality campuses, and providing high-level supplies. We will make joint efforts to build Jiangbei New Area into a “new highland of industrial innovation and a new main city full of youthful vitality” as soon as possible and to achieve the goal of becoming the “first Nanjing University” at an early stage.
Lu Weidong said that Nanjing University is a renowned and prestigious institution of higher learning with a long history in China. Accelerate the infrastructure construction of the campus, and promote the upgrading of campus infrastructure, the optimization of functional Spaces and the improvement of environmental quality in a coordinated manner. Build a high-quality innovative technology research and development platform to promote the birth of more high-level scientific research and innovation in the new district. Jointly build a technology transfer carrier in the Jiangbei New District of Nanjing University National University Science Park and enhance industrial integration with the new district. Jointly build the Jiangbei New Area Base of Nanjing University’s School of Outstanding Engineers, relying on the disciplinary advantages of Nanjing University, and join hands with leading enterprises in the fields of electronic information, biomedicine, materials and chemical engineering, and resource environment in the new area to jointly cultivate compound and applied innovative talents. Empower the Yangtze River Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Pilot Zone, and jointly build a main carrier for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, a practical ground for cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and an incubation ground for the growth of technology enterprises. Expand cooperation with Jiangsu Institute of Industrial Technology, and achieve research-production connection with top scientific teams and major industrial project resources. Accelerate the cluster development of enterprises under the “Nanjing University Group”, provide support from the “Technology Transfer Fund”, cultivate core technologies and products, and incubate innovative enterprises.
