A few days ago, the Nanjing Civil Affairs Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Urban and Rural Development Commission, the Nanjing Municipal Transportation Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and the Office of the Nanjing Municipal Local Chronicles Compilation Committee jointly issued a document to announce the third batch of Nanjing Geographical Names Cultural Heritage Protection Directory, and the Xiaguan Binjiang Zhongshan Wharf was selected.
The history of Zhongshan Wharf can be traced back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, but the reason why it is famous at home and abroad has an important relationship with a generation of great man Mr. Sun Yat-sen. Mr. Sun Yat-sen died of illness in Beijing in 1925, and the Nationalist Government decided to hold a funeral for Mr. Sun Yat-sen after the capital was Nanjing, which was known as the “Feng’an Ceremony”. In order to ensure that the Feng’an ceremony was held as scheduled, the Capital Road Engineering Department built Zhongshan Avenue and Zhongshan Wharf in August 1928.
Nowadays, the Zhongshan Wharf area has become an important part of the history and culture along the Xiaguan Riverside, and the adjacent “Republic of China Capital Power Plant Site Park”, the new “Little Red Building”, and the newly built “Xiaguan Power Plant Site Park” are stitched together and coordinated, becoming an urban park for tourists to check in and rest and visit.
