On October 26th, the 10th Pharmaceutical Innovation and Investment Conference, hosted by the China Association for Pharmaceutical Innovation and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, opened in the new district. Cao Xuetao, Deputy director of the Education, Science, Health and Sports Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Rao Zihe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tian Zhigang and Huang Xiaojun, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Lu Weidong, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Party Secretary of Jiangbei New Area and Party Secretary of Pukou District, Song Ruilin, senior president and chief expert of the China Pharmaceutical Innovation Promotion Association Wang Wei, a member of the Party Working Committee and deputy director of the Management Committee of Jiangbei New Area, attended the opening ceremony.
This year’s venture capital conference, themed “Innovate for a Decade, Invest for the Future”, lasts for two days and focuses on areas such as AI-empowered pharmaceutical research and development, gene and cell therapy, etc. It features 22 sub-forum activities including the “Nanjing Jiangbei New Area – Hong Kong Biomedical Industry Exchange Conference”, “Frontier Forum on Cell and Gene Therapy”, “Global First Release of Clinical Data Special Session”, and “Capital Market Forum” Build a multi-dimensional connection bridge and construct a multi-dialogue platform involving “government, industry, academia, research, application and capital”. At the exchange meeting, the National Intellectual Property Operation Center for the Biomedical Industry was simultaneously awarded a plaque. The Life and Health Office of the New District and the Hong Kong Biomedical Innovation Association strengthened exchanges and cooperation around the center’s construction and further explored development opportunities for the industry. During the conference, Nanjing Biomedical Valley enterprise Shihe Gene also released the clinical trial data of the test kits for the first time, and Qinling Medicine released the latest clinical research results.
This year also marks the first time that the conference has been held in Nanjing Jiangbei New Area. A special visit and investigation activity has been set up, focusing on Nanjing Biomedical Valley and leading enterprises and institutions within the area. It comprehensively showcases the pharmaceutical innovation ecosystem from research and development, transformation to industrialization, providing an opportunity for the attending guests to deeply engage with the core resources of the new area’s biomedical industry and seize cutting-edge investment and cooperation opportunities.
Lu Weidong stated that in recent years, the new district has continuously delved into the biopharmaceutical industry, striving to build the Nanjing Biopharmaceutical Valley, an important carrier for the development of the biopharmaceutical industry, and constructing a biopharmaceutical industry innovation ecosystem that integrates “learning, research, production, and application” and is fully connected throughout the entire chain. The Pharmaceutical Innovation and Investment Conference is not only a high-end platform for gathering cutting-edge wisdom and insight into R&D trends, but also an important bridge connecting policy breakthroughs and capital integration. At the opening ceremony, Academician Cao Xuetao of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Rao Zihe of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Senior President Song Ruilin of the China Pharmaceutical Innovation Promotion Association respectively shared their insights on the themes of “Strategic Thinking and Implementation Path of the National Science and Technology Major Project for Innovative Drug Research and Development”, “Pathogens and Great Health”, and “The Ten-Year Development and Prospect of China’s Pharmaceutical Innovation”. During the special discussion session, representatives from relevant academicians and experts, research institutions, industry enterprises, and investment institutions shared their experiences and thoughts based on their respective fields, focusing on technological innovation and going global, as well as the trends and directions of investment and financing.
The meeting was attended by the heads of several well-known innovative drug enterprises such as Hengrui Medicine, Beigene, Luye Life Sciences Group, and Fosun International, representatives from research institutes and investment institutions, Yangzi State-owned Assets Group, and responsible persons from relevant departments, industrial platforms, and directly affiliated state-owned enterprises of the new district.
