On September 25th, the event for Southeast University and China Pharmaceutical University to settle in the National University Biomedical Regional Technology Transfer and Transformation Center (Nanjing, Jiangsu) was held in the Biomedical Valley of the New District. Wu Xiaocheng, the Party Secretary of Southeast University, Dai Jianjun, the Party Secretary of China Pharmaceutical University, Lu Weidong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Committee, Party Secretary of Jiangbei New Area and Party Secretary of Pukou District, Yang Shubing, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education, Qiu Haibo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Southeast University, Yang Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of China Pharmaceutical University, and Wang Wei, Member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Jiangbei New Area, attended the event.
Southeast University is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Jiangsu Province. It is one of the key universities under the “Project 985” and “Project 211” initiatives. Last May, the new district signed a cooperation agreement with Southeast University, and the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences of Southeast University moved into the new district. In November, the two sides once again joined hands to promote the construction of the organ-on-a-chip Research Institute’s technology transfer platform, and the Southeast University Organ-on-a-chip Building was inaugurated and established in the new district.
China Pharmaceutical University is the first higher education institution of pharmacy established by the state in the history of China. It is a university under the “211 Project” and became a university included in the “Double First-Class” initiative in 2017. The university’s pharmacy discipline cluster, led by pharmacy and traditional Chinese pharmacy, has always maintained a leading position in China. In January this year, the new district signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with China Pharmaceutical University to jointly build the Jiangbei Innovation Center of China Pharmaceutical University.
At the event site, the Jiangbei Innovation and Transformation Center for Medical and Life Sciences of Southeast University and the Jiangbei Innovation Center of China Pharmaceutical University were inaugurated, marking the official establishment of the innovation platforms of the two universities in the new district.
Yang Shubing said that Jiangbei New Area, as the only national-level new area in Jiangsu Province, has accelerated the layout of the entire chain of the biopharmaceutical industry and gradually built an integrated biopharmaceutical industry innovation ecosystem that combines learning, research, production and application. The official entry of the two universities into the Nanjing Biomedical Sub-Center marks the establishment of a more comprehensive, closer and deeper cooperative relationship between the two sides. It is hoped that the Nanjing Biomedical Branch Center, Southeast University and China Pharmaceutical University will continuously innovate mechanisms, accelerate the formation of a working synergy, create a favorable ecosystem and produce cooperation results. The provincial education department will also continue to support the construction of the center from aspects such as deepening talent cultivation to a higher standard, building innovation platforms to a higher quality, and promoting the transformation of achievements to a higher efficiency.
Qiu Haibo said that Jiangbei New Area is a highland for the biopharmaceutical industry. Today, the Jiangbei Innovation and Transformation Center for Medical and Life Sciences of Southeast University was officially inaugurated, marking that the university’s innovation layout in Jiangbei New Area has entered a new stage of systematic and integrated development. This is not only an expansion of physical space but also a transformation of the development paradigm. We look forward to working hand in hand with all parties to solve the transformation problems, bringing more innovations to reality and forming real productive forces. Taking this cooperation as a new starting point, Southeast University will fully support the construction of its medical science program. With greater responsibility and more practical measures, it will contribute more “Southeast University strength” to Nanjing’s efforts to build a globally influential innovation highland for the biomedical industry.
Yang Yong said that the determination of Jiangbei New Area to attract talents, its efficient style and the motivation to start businesses and do things are remarkable. The construction of the Jiangbei Innovation Center of China Pharmaceutical University is exploring a new model of university operation that integrates education, science and technology, and talent in a “trinity” and deeply combines “learning, research, production and application”. At present, a number of transformation projects of the school have been settled in Jiangbei Innovation Center, and a group of teachers are innovating and starting businesses on this fertile land of Jiangbei New Area. The school will firmly seize the opportunity of cooperation with Jiangbei New Area, accelerate the deep integration of the innovation chain, industrial chain and talent chain, and jointly write a brand-new chapter of “the common progress of universities and new areas, the integration of science and technology with industry, and the win-win situation of education with society”.
Wang Wei said that the settlement of Southeast University and China Pharmaceutical University in the Nanjing Biomedical Branch Center reflects the full trust of the two universities in the development of the new district and their high recognition of all the work. Taking this event as an opportunity, we look forward to working together to build a highland for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and break through the “transformation barriers” for the implementation of achievements. Collaboratively cultivate an industrial innovation talent team to consolidate the “talent foundation” for industrial development. Continuously stimulate the innovative vitality of academia, research, industry and application, build a “connecting bond” for coordinated development, further activate the potential of collaborative innovation between universities and localities, and promote a two-way leap in regional innovation capabilities and industrial development levels.
At the meeting, Han Junhai, the dean of the School of Life Science and Technology at Southeast University, and Han Sifei, an associate researcher at the School of Pharmacy of China Pharmaceutical University, spoke in turn on actively and proactively integrating into the construction of the regional biopharmaceutical industry ecosystem.
During the cooperation signing ceremony, the Nanjing Biomedical Branch Center signed agreements with a total of six resident projects from Southeast University and China Pharmaceutical University. These projects will focus on key areas such as cutting-edge medical research, drug development, organ-on-a-chip, and life and health big data, promoting the industrialization of more scientific research achievements.
The Jiangbei Innovation and Transformation Center for Medical and Life Sciences of Southeast University and the Jiangbei Innovation Center of China Pharmaceutical University signed an agreement. The two sides will further build a bridge of cooperation and jointly promote the development of the biopharmaceutical industry.
The Nanjing Biomedical Branch Center has appointed 12 experts and scholars, including Cheng Bin, Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Medicine and Life Sciences at Southeast University, and Di Bin, Vice President of the Research Institute of China Pharmaceutical University, as expert advisors. Southeast University has appointed six entrepreneurs, including Leng Derong, the director and president of Nanwei Medical, as advisors for the innovation and transformation of the medical and life science industries at Southeast University. China Pharmaceutical University has appointed seven entrepreneurs, including Xu Xiao, the founder and CEO of Yufang Biotech, as part-time industrial professors of the School of Biomedical Excellence Engineers.
Zhu Chaoping, deputy director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Geng Huaping, deputy director of the Municipal Education Bureau, representatives from universities and enterprises, and responsible persons from relevant departments and industrial platforms of the new District attended the event.
