Nanjing is the national science and education “third city”, with 53 colleges and universities, 61 research institutes, 96 academicians, the number of “double first-class” construction of colleges and universities third in the country, more than 1 million college students, the number of college students per 10,000 ranked first in municipalities directly under the central Government and vice-provincial cities.
Nanjing ranks fifth in the world in the “2024 Nature Index – Research City” and ninth in the world’s science and technology cluster in the “2024 Global Innovation Index”.
Nanjing has steadily carried out economic, trade and investment cooperation with more than 210 countries and regions around the world, expanded the opening up of the service industry, the superposition of opening up strategies such as pilot free trade zones, state-level new areas, development zones, airport economic demonstration zones, comprehensive free trade zones and other opening carriers, 10-million-level large airports, 100-million-ton ports and state-level high-speed rail hubs and other open channels.
Focusing on the development direction of eight strategic emerging industries, we will build trillion-level software and information services and 500-trillion-level smart grid industrial clusters, promote intelligent manufacturing equipment, biomedicine, new energy vehicles, and new materials industries to accelerate their progress toward the 300-trillion-level, and integrate circuits and aerospace industries to exceed 100 billion. At the same time, forward-looking layout of the new generation of artificial intelligence, the third generation of semiconductors, genes and cells, metauniverse, future network and advanced communication, energy storage and hydrogen energy and other future industries.
On this basis, Nanjing has set up four industrial assault and promotion offices to break through four new tracks of artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedicine, and new generation information and communication with the city’s strength.
The artificial intelligence industry will vigorously implement the “artificial intelligence +” action, actively develop vertical large-model industries, forward-looking layout of AI agents, brain-computer interface, brain-like intelligence, embodied intelligence and other frontier fields, and gather together to create a national AI innovation and application pilot area.
The robot industry will amplify the advantages of industrial robots, accelerate the development of collaboration, logistics, safety and emergency response, public services, personal consumption, medical and health and other characteristics of robots, actively layout humanoid robots, and gather to create a national robot technology innovation and industrial gathering place.
The biomedical industry will seize the segmentation fields of chemical innovative drugs, traditional Chinese medicine innovative drugs, macromolecular drugs, patented apis, imaging equipment, and actively layout the cutting-edge track such as synthetic biology, and gather together to create the country’s leading innovative pharmaceutical device research and development and industrial transformation highland.
The new generation of information and communication industry will give full play to its first-mover advantage, accelerate the layout of 6G, future network, satellite Internet, quantum communication, optical communication and other new track, and gather together to build the national 6G industry development demonstration zone.
We will promote the deep integration of advanced manufacturing and modern service industries, accelerate the development of an international consumption center, an important financial center, a regional shipping and logistics center, and a famous international exhibition city, vigorously develop the headquarters economy and the first-tier economy, and actively foster new consumer, cross-border e-commerce, industrial Internet and other platform enterprises. We will continue to improve the quality and efficiency of producer services such as research and development services, professional technical services, carbon management services, and supply chain services.
