The Jiangning West Road cross-river passage project starts at the intersection of Xingpu Road and Jiangbei Avenue in Jiangbei New District in the north, is paved along the direction of Xingpu Road, crosses Puzhu Road, Linpu Railway, and Pubin Road, and sets up an underground interchange with the planned Hengjiang Avenue in the form of a tunnel. Then it crosses the Yangtze River in the form of a tunnel, and is paved along the existing Jianning Road to the south bank, and ends in front of Jinchuan Hexi Road.

The Jianning West Road Cross-River Passage Project (Phase I) Railway Project Section 2 starts from Puzhu Road in the north and ends at the intersection of Xingpu Road and Pubin Road in the south. “This section is 1,409 meters long, with a total of 15 main line bridges.” Shen Dianfeng, deputy chief engineer of the project, said that the first section is the cantilever beam construction across Puzhu Road, the second to sixth sections are prefabricated box beams across the Linpu Railway, and the seventh to fifteenth sections are cast-in-place beams on supports. There are up and down ramps on both sides of the bridge.
At present, the lower structure construction of the first to ninth sections, the fifteenth section and the on- and off-ramp bridges has been completed, and the upper structure construction of the cantilever beam across Puzhu Road is underway.
“The most difficult part of this section is the construction across Puzhu Road. Puzhu Road is an eight-lane bidirectional road with heavy traffic. In order to protect pedestrians and vehicles under the bridge, a smart hanging basket is used in conjunction with a fully enclosed protection solution. ” Shen Dianfeng said.
The suspended beams on the Puzhu Road section are constructed with a smart hanging basket. Through the synchronous walking system, the hanging baskets on both sides move forward synchronously and move toward the middle of the road. After each movement, the next beam section will be constructed, and observation points will be set up on the beam surface for real-time monitoring to ensure that there is almost no error when the final joint is closed. It is understood that the entire cross-road section needs to be poured symmetrically 8 times, and poured once more when the main span is closed.
“At present, the hanging baskets for the suspended beams on both sides have been installed, and all work is progressing in an orderly manner. It is expected that the closure of the suspended beams will be completed in May next year. ” Shen Dianfeng said.
The Jianning West Road cross-river passage project is located between the Yangtze River Bridge and the Yangtze River Tunnel, about 1.8 kilometers from the Dinghuaimen Yangtze River Tunnel upstream and about 2.4 kilometers from the Yangtze River Bridge downstream.
As an important part of Nanjing’s “expressway system”, the Jianning West Road cross-river passage will effectively ease the pressure of trunk cross-river traffic after its completion, and enhance the convenience of connection between the core area of Jiangbei New District and Jiangnan Gulou Riverside. As the closest cross-river passage to Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, it will only take 15 minutes to drive from Jiangbei Avenue to Central Gate.
