From 0 to 180 companies, how did Lishui forge this ‘national brand’?

The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party proposed ‘building a modern industrial system and consolidating and strengthening the foundation of the real economy,’ and called for ‘constructing a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as the backbone.’ CNC machine tools are the core equipment of advanced manufacturing technology, commonly known as the ‘mother of industrial machines,’ and they affect manufacturing accuracy and efficiency. From small screws to large aerospace equipment, manufacturing cannot do without them.

Lishui District has taken the CNC machine tool industry as an important focus, promoting the clustered development of advanced manufacturing. From scattered enterprises operating independently to 180 industrial-chain enterprises collaborating, the Lishui CNC machine tool functional components industry cluster has successfully achieved national recognition, completing a remarkable transformation and becoming a vivid example of high-quality regional manufacturing development.

Yongyang Subdistrict was once famous for its casting industry, with established enterprises such as Zhongshan Foundry maintaining business relationships with major domestic machine tool manufacturers. In 2012, upon recommendation from Zhongshan Foundry, Tengyang Machinery, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qiaofeng Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., settled in Lishui, unexpectedly igniting a wildfire in the local CNC machine tool industry. ‘At that time, funds were tight, so building a factory was not feasible; we just wanted to rent an existing facility,’ recalled Li Ruizhi, the company’s deputy general manager.
