On December 24, the Fourth Forum on Global Communication of Cities themed “Digital Empowerment for a Multidimensional Communication Structure” was held in Nanjing. Around 300 guests, including local publicity department heads, think tank experts, and media professionals, gathered to exchange ideas and offer suggestions on building a more effective global communication system for cities and facilitating their effective communication. During the forum, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and seven other cities were awarded the title of “Pioneering Chinese Cities in Overall International Visibility”.
The forum released the 2024 Report on Overseas Visibility of Chinese Cities and presented several global communication awards. Nanjing was named the “Pioneering Chinese City in Overall International Visibility” for four consecutive years.
Reference News Office, one of the hosts of the forum, previously wrote in a special feature titled “Nanjing Explores New Paths for Mutual Learning Between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations” that Nanjing has leveraged its unique resources and employed diverse communication strategies to showcase China’s solutions and image through excellent Nanjing practices and from a multifaceted Nanjing perspective.
At the forum, Nanjing shared typical cases such as the “ZOOTOPIA” Hongshan International Joint Practice Camp and the Digital Heritage – Immersive Cultural Heritage Innovator Contest, presented its exploration and practices in international cultural exchanges, and demonstrated how it effectively utilizes its urban resources to tell China’s story from a Nanjing perspective with a focus on global concerns like heritage preservation, green ecology, and sustainable development.
The Fourth Forum on Global Communication of Cities was jointly hosted by the Reference News Office, Xinhua News & Information Center, and Xinhua News Agency Jiangsu Branch, with the Nanjing Municipal People’s Government Information Office and Xinhua News & Information Center Jiangsu Center as co-organizers. The forum aims to create a platform for international urban communication, innovate communication methods, and provide intellectual support for effectively sharing Chinese city stories with the world.
