On June 7th, Jiangsu Province’s Department of Commerce and the Office of Sihanoukville Provincial Government co-hosted a Jiangsu-Sihanoukville Investment Cooperation Promotion Conference in Nanjing, which was successfully held. The event was attended by officials from Jiangsu’s departments of commerce, culture, tourism, and foreign affairs, representatives from the Jiangsu Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, Jiangsu Tourism Association, Jiangsu Modern Supply Chain Association, Nanjing Supply Chain Development Promotion Association, over 120 Jiangsu enterprises, more than 150 business representatives, and guests from the Sihanoukville Provincial Government delegation, totaling over 200 participants. They engaged in in-depth exchanges to promote investment cooperation in industries such as manufacturing, commerce, and tourism between both sides.

In his welcoming speech, Si Yong, Director of Jiangsu Province’s Department of Commerce, stated that in recent years, Jiangsu has been deeply integrated into high-quality joint construction of the ‘Belt and Road,’ continuously deepening economic and trade cooperation with Cambodia. Last month, Governor Xu Kunlin led a delegation to visit Sihanoukville Province, attending the ceremony for the ‘Industrial Development Corridor’ construction in Cambodia and the celebration of over 200 companies entering the Special Economic Zone, injecting confidence and clarifying the direction for the zone’s future development. The Department of Commerce will focus on deepening industrial and supply chain cooperation, strengthening mechanism and platform construction, and serving as a strong backing for enterprises going global, continuously promoting higher quality mutually beneficial cooperation between Jiangsu and Cambodia, especially Sihanoukville Province, and constantly enriching the ‘Diamond Hexagon’ cooperation framework between China and Cambodia.

Mon Sihanouk, Governor of Kampong Som Province, attended and delivered a speech, stating that this promotional event reflects the traditional friendship between the two countries, known as ‘iron-clad friends,’ and the solid foundation of economic and trade cooperation between Jiangsu Province and Kampong Som Province. The joint development of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone by both sides is a hallmark project of pragmatic cooperation and mutual benefit between China and Cambodia. He hopes that through this event, more high-quality enterprises from Jiangsu will invest and develop in Kampong Som Province, better supporting the construction of a multifunctional economic demonstration zone in Kampong Som Province and achieving high-quality development.

Eang Sothear, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the Sihanoukville Investment Promotion Working Group, attended and made an investment promotion presentation, introducing the special investment promotion projects for 2024 in Kampong Som Province (extended until 2025). Chen Jiangang, Chairman of Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Co., Ltd., and Wang Xiaohong, Vice President of Jiangsu Jialida International Logistics Co., Ltd., exchanged views and shared the latest development achievements of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone and successful investment cases by Jiangsu companies in Cambodia.

During the Q&A session, representatives from Jiangsu Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., Jiangyin Meihong Photovoltaic Application Materials Co., Ltd., Wuxi Taikelong Technology Co., Ltd., Jinbo Holding Group, and other companies asked questions about Cambodia’s investment policies, business environment, education and healthcare guarantees, and intended projects. Governor Mon Sihanouk and other Cambodian leaders and relevant officials provided detailed responses.

This promotional event was focused, well-organized, open, and practical. Jiangsu companies took advantage of this opportunity to have in-depth exchanges with the delegation from the Kampong Som Provincial Government, and both sides gained a lot from it.

The Consul General of Cambodia in Shanghai, Ning Weisi, and Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, Sun Jin, attended the promotional event.
