On the afternoon of September 16th, the “Science Popularization Jiangsu – Academician and Expert Grassroots Tour (Lishui)” and the Nanjing Association for Science and Technology Lecture Hall event, presented by Academician Zhang Shaoling, a specially-appointed professor of the “Zhongshan Scholar” program at Nanjing Agricultural University and a doctoral supervisor, was successfully held at the China (Nanjing) Eastern Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Port. This event, themed “Thoughts on the New Quality Productivity of the Fruit Tree Industry”, aims to inject high-end intelligence and bring cutting-edge perspectives to the transformation and upgrading of the fruit tree industry in Lishui District.
Academician Zhang Shaoling, starting from the connotation and contemporary significance of new quality productivity, combined with the years of practice of the national modern agricultural (pear) industry technology system, systematically analyzed the opportunities and bottlenecks in the current development of the fruit tree industry. For 40 years, he has been dedicated to the research and application of the molecular genetic basis, germplasm innovation and efficient cultivation of pears, making outstanding contributions to the development and progress of the pear industry. As the “first finisher”, he has won two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and four first prizes at the provincial and ministerial level. He has published over 450 papers, ranking first in the world in both the quantity and quality of SCI papers published in the field of pears. More than 200 postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students have been cultivated.
Jiangsu Province, especially the Lishui area, enjoys superior ecological conditions and a solid agricultural foundation. It is fully capable of taking the lead in demonstrating new fruit tree varieties, building smart agricultural scenarios, and developing high-value-added fruits. Zhang Shaoling said that the key is to build a development model featuring good regions, good seeds, good sales, good methods and good talents, and promote the development of the fruit tree industry in a coordinated manner.
On the spot, representatives from fruit tree growers at the grassroots level, fruit processing enterprises, as well as the heads of agricultural science popularization and education bases and science and technology small courtyards all expressed that they had benefited a lot: “The academician pointed out the direction for the improvement and selection of fruit tree varieties in the report, provided new ideas for the deep processing and diversified development of fruits, and broadened the development path of the industry.”
This event is hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Science and Technology, organized by the Nanjing Municipal Association for Science and Technology, and co-organized by the Talent Office of Lishui District Committee, the District Association for Science and Technology, the District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Nanjing Science and Technology Museum. It aims to inspire ideas and gather resources through leading reports by academicians and experts, providing strong talent support and intellectual guarantee for the modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the region. Next, Lishui District will thoroughly implement the relevant requirements of the “Nanjing City Mechanism for Contacting and Serving Academicians and Experts”, refine the service and guarantee for academicians and experts, regularly invite academicians to Lishui to carry out talent exchange and connection, popular science lectures and other activities, promote the transformation and application of more high-level talents (teams) and high-end scientific research achievements, and contribute to the high-quality development of the local economy.
September this year marks the first “National Science Popularization Month” after the revision and promulgation of the Science Popularization Law. In recent days, the District Association for Science and Technology has meticulously planned and launched nearly 200 activities, including science popularization reports by academicians and experts, fire science popularization volunteer services in communities, science popularization caravan in schools, over 100 science popularization lectures, autumn science popularization study Tours, and square science popularization consultations. These activities have sparked a science popularization craze throughout the district, bringing practical scientific knowledge to schools, communities, enterprises, and rural areas, achieving full coverage of science popularization activities. Create a favorable situation where all citizens participate in science popularization and share the fruits of scientific and technological development, and inject lasting impetus into the innovative development of Lishui.
