A domestic first, a new district has come into being

Hydrocephalus is a common and serious disease in the field of neurosurgery. Based on the number of people in different age groups and the incidence rate, it is estimated that there are approximately 1.7 million to 2.11 million patients with hydrocephalus in China 👇
Recently, good news has come from the new district enterprise, Primon, regarding this disease: its independently developed “Disposable hydrocephalus shunt and Components” has passed the review of the National Medical Products Administration for the registration application of products intended for market launch and successfully obtained the third-class medical device registration certificate.

As a pioneering product in China, its approval is expected to bring new hope to millions of patients with hydrocephalus in our country. It is worth mentioning that this is also the second Class III medical device registration certificate that Primon has obtained in the past two months or so.

Before introducing the product, let’s do a little science popularization: The “water” accumulated in hydrocephalus refers to the excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the cranial cavity.
Our brain is already immersed in cerebrospinal fluid. Under normal circumstances, cerebrospinal fluid acts like a “moat”, protecting the safety of the brain. However, when there are disorders in its secretion, circulation or absorption links, the water level of this “river” will abnormally rise, compressing the brain and causing increased intracranial pressure, neurological dysfunction, eye disorders, etc.
When the water level rises, diversion is necessary. At present, cerebrospinal fluid shunt surgery is a key method for treating hydrocephalus – by implanting a shunt system in the human body, the excess cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles is diverted to other parts of the body for absorption. As a key consumable, the shunt system is directly related to the surgical outcome, but its market has long been monopolized by international giants.

“At present, all similar products used in China are imported. A decent water accumulation diversion system can cost tens of thousands of yuan. This not only imposes a heavy burden on patients and medical insurance, but also poses risks to the supply chain.” ” A relevant staff member of Primon introduced. For this reason, they made up their minds to tackle the problem and eventually achieved a breakthrough in domestic production.

It is understood that the “Disposable hydrocephalus shunt and components” approved by Primon this time can drain the excess cerebrospinal fluid of patients from the ventricles to the peritoneal cavity for absorption. Meanwhile, it is also the first domestic diversion product that integrates the functions of “adjustable pressure” and “anti-siphon”.
You might be curious: What are the functions of “adjustable pressure” and “anti-siphon”? It should be noted that the previous cerebrospinal fluid shunt systems mostly had a fixed pressure difference, which easily led to insufficient or excessive drainage, causing various complications. After a certain period of time, another operation might be required to replace the shunt tube.

To address this pain point, the “adjustable pressure” function of Primon’s new product enables doctors to adjust the pressure Settings externally at any time based on the patient’s postoperative performance and clinical symptoms, significantly reducing the risk of secondary surgery.
Meanwhile, the “anti-siphon” device equipped on the product can reduce the occurrence of excessive drainage, lower the risk of complications such as subdural hematoma, and alleviate the burden on patients.

In a market long dominated by overseas giants, Primon’s pioneering domestic production represents a technological leap for its team in the field of high-end neurosurgical consumables.
More importantly, the approval and listing of domestic products also means that domestic patients will be able to enjoy international-level medical solutions at a lower cost.
A pioneering product has been approved, benefiting millions of patients.

As a company dedicated to the research and development and industrialization of high-end medical consumables, Primon has been running forward in the fields of innovative material research and development and high-end medical device design and manufacturing. Previously, the team has independently developed innovative medical devices such as absorbable surgical sutures, absorbable hemostatic clips, and absorbable skull locks, which have been applied in many top-tier hospitals across the country. In July, the company also completed a C-round financing of nearly 300 million yuan.
The independent control of high-end medical equipment is also a solid foundation for safeguarding life and health. A relevant staff member of Primon stated that the team will continue to conduct research and development based on clinical needs and constantly increase production capacity. In the future, we look forward to the emergence of more innovative achievements.
