The Yangtze River Ecological Civilization Innovation Center was jointly established by the Nanjing Municipal Government and Nanjing University. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and strategically positioned as “the commanding heights of green technology innovation and talent training, the incubator for green and low-carbon industry cultivation, the think tank for high-quality development, and the experimental field for the reform of scientific and technological systems and mechanisms”, and facing the major needs of the high-quality development of the Yangtze River, the center organizes, leads, co-ordinates, gathers, and coordinates the advantageous resources of ecological environment science and technology at home and abroad, builds a core framework system of “three academies, three platforms and four supports”, and creates an efficient collaborative scientific and technological innovation platform of “government-industry-academia-research-use-finance-media”. In 2021, the center was successfully approved as Jiangsu Provincial Water Ecological Security and Health Technology Innovation Center. The work of the center runs through the whole chain of green technology research and development, application and promotion, and industrial development, and focuses on solving key issues such as the heavy chemical encirclement of the Yangtze River, the ecological restoration of the Yangtze River, and the development of green industries, so as to create a replicable and promotable “Jiangsu model” for the construction of ecological civilization, and help Nanjing to build a leading national innovative city and the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The center has built a core framework system of “three institutes, three platforms and four supports”, focusing on the construction of a green and low-carbon industrial technology research institute, a source innovation research institute, a green elite innovation college, an “ecological eye” intelligent perception platform, a major public technology platform, and a green technology engineering platform. Relying on the four major supports of strategic think tanks, capital funds, carrier ecology, and institutional mechanisms, we will help bridge the “death gap” in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and provide institutional supply and technical support for the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
