Recently, it was learned from Alibaba Group that in the first half of next year, various business units of Alibaba Jiangsu headquarters will gradually move into Nanjing Alibaba Center. This largest Internet factory park in the southwest region of Hebei Province is expected to be completed and delivered in 2026.
In 2001, Nanjing City decided to build Hexi New City west of Qinhuai River, which was the first area in Nanjing’s urban development history to be planned in an overall unified manner and then organized and implemented for construction.
Hexi South usually refers to the Hexi CBD Phase III area south of Jiangshan Street, which is the focus of the current and future new city development and construction. Headquarters projects compete to settle down
Seven years ago, Alibaba chose the southwest of Hebei Province to build the Nanjing Ali Center with a total construction area of about 850,000 square meters, and set up its Jiangsu headquarters. On September 30 this year, the first phase of the land, including three office buildings and a commercial HUB, was delivered, and the second phase of the shopping mall project is also scheduled to open next year.
“Since the establishment of our Jiangsu headquarters, we have had 32 related business units deeply rooted in Nanjing.” A person from the Strategic Development Department of Alibaba Group introduced that, taking Alibaba Cloud Intelligent Technology (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. as an example, the Nanjing team of more than 200 people covers the entire technical chain including sales, pre-sales, R&D, delivery, operation and maintenance, and has supported Jiangsu manufacturing enterprises in the “smart transformation and digital transformation” and implemented more than 50 scenario solutions, completing nearly 500 digital transformations.
Exit 3 of Yongchu Road Subway Station, where Nanjing Metro Line S3 and Line 7 intersect, leads directly to Nanjing Ali Center, while Exit 2 across the street leads to Xiaomi Nanjing Science Park. The total construction area of the park is about 365,000 square meters, and the first phase has been officially put into use. Lei Jun, chairman of Xiaomi Group, said that the four major sectors of automobile R&D, mobile phone R&D, software engineering and Internet business will be deployed in Nanjing to build the largest R&D center in the country outside the Beijing headquarters of Xiaomi Group.
Up to now, several headquarters projects have been implemented within the 1 square kilometer area surrounded by Xijiangshan Avenue, Lushan Road, Zhonghe Road and Pingliang Avenue in Hexi: to the east of Nanjing Alibaba Center is the headquarters of Yanghe Shares, to the southeast the construction site will be built into Nanjing’s first JW Marriott Hotel, to the west is the 58 Group Jiangsu headquarters project, and to the north is the underground project of Hang Seng Electronics Jiangsu headquarters ready for construction… The “organization” of large companies has attracted a large number of headquarters, and some people describe Hexi South as “two moves bring the whole board to life.”0 2

Not long after Alibaba’s Jiangsu headquarters was established, Xiaomi Group followed suit and decided to build its East China headquarters. Lei Jun once thanked Alibaba in public for helping Xiaomi “save” several million yuan in site selection costs: “They have chosen, so we will choose the one next to theirs.”

The former idea is usually to build factory roads in areas relatively remote from the city, emphasizing the use of industry to drive urban development, focusing on production development and neglecting life services, and the population is mainly concentrated on industrial workers. The latter idea is to carry out urban planning based on people’s needs, shifting from production orientation to life orientation, taking the improvement of urban functions as the starting point, forming urban functional supporting facilities suitable for elite white-collar work and life, and then attracting large headquarters companies to gather with high-quality population and high-quality cities.
Cities are built around people’s needs, industries come to cities, and more people gather because of industries, and the integrated development of industry and city gradually becomes a closed loop. On November 20, Lei Jun recruited people online for Xiaomi Group’s East China headquarters on social media, and it is expected that 5,000 R&D personnel will be gathered here in the next three years and 10,000 in the next five years.
Nanjing Ali Center will build the first 24-hour rooftop business in Hexi South on the top floor of the shopping mall to be delivered next year, providing extended service for young people. The development and construction of Hexi South should be viewed in the overall context of the development of Hexi New City. Driven by major events such as the 10th National Games and the Youth Olympic Games, Hexi New City has arranged residential and other functions along the axis of Jiangdong Middle Road in a fishbone shape, and supporting facilities such as culture, sports, exhibitions, finance, business and trade have been put into place one by one. This year, the second phase of the Financial City refreshed the Nanjing skyline with a height of 416.6 meters, and the third IFC in China was put into operation. Hexi New City has become the area that best showcases Nanjing’s modern and international image.
Hexi CBD has gathered more than 1,300 financial institutions and 24 billion-yuan buildings, making it the second largest central business district in East China after Lujiazui. Now, the third phase of Hexi CBD is advancing southwards in a rhythmic manner, and the functions and quality are getting higher and higher as it goes south, until the completion of Yuzui Future Center.
