The exhibition was bustling with visitors that evening. Highlights included the Yunjin Zhuanghua Garment (replica) from the Nanjing Yunjin Museum, the Grand Scenery of the East series of high-fashion Yunjin dresses featuring over three million embroidery stitches, and the uniquely designed lighting installation series that creatively integrates the aesthetic spirit of traditional Chinese culture with contemporary design methods.
The exhibition attracted representatives from various French governmental departments, the Chinese Embassy in France, UNESCO and more. Many exhibits received high praise from representatives of professional organizations such as the Chambres de Métiers et de l’Artisanat, the Fédération Française du Bâtiment, and the Ateliers d’Art de France.

On the eve of the exhibition, Nanjing launched a program, aimed at facilitating collaboration between international artists and intangible cultural heritage masters through in-depth site research and innovative artistic expression. This series of works stood in the spot light at the exhibition.
“Visiting the museum and discovering the local rich traditional handicraft heritage, especially the ancient crafts that are still applied, provided me with special inspiration.” Ugo Gattoni, a French illustrator and official poster designer for the Paris 2024 Olympics, chose to use traditional weaving techniques to interpret his personal work Nebula, which he has dedicated nearly eight years to developing. The work depicts a meeting place of octopus tentacles: The Crossroads of Stars, symbolizing encounters in the world.
Renowned French designer Matali Crasset meticulously crafted the Matali X Yunjin series, using assorted color contrasts to represent clouds, light, water and symbols of Nanjing, such as the City Wall and the Qinhuai River boats. She extensively employed straight lines with the characteristic of infinite extension to depict landscapes, attempting to convey the dynamic changes of still life. Wei Donghui, Chinese independent designer and founder of JACQUES WEI, created Jacques Wei X Velvet Flowers X Silk Flowers, using the “seasons of a year” as the creative backdrop and flowers as the focal point to express themes of life’s blossoming, decay and the passage of time.
At the event, Chinese contemporary origami artist and Nanjing designer Huang Xiaoxian interacted with the audience through a paper folding on Tongxin Fangsheng—a traditional Chinese affection token represented by two interconnected diamond-shaped knots, often symbolizing the love between a couple. The brocade-themed activity includes a salon held on October 27, inviting contemporary Chinese artisans and French modern designers to share practical cases and creative stories, and discuss inheritance, innovation and contemporary expression across different cultural backgrounds. Chen Cheng, a representative inheritor of the Nanjing Yunjin weaving with wooden loom, expressed, “I look forward to integrating Yunjin with contemporary needs and modern trends to achieve industrialization and internationalization.”
