In 1968, at the opening ceremony of the Yangtze River Bridge, rows of leaping cars marched hand in hand; In 1986, the Central Gate Overpass was completed and opened to traffic, and New Leap Forward was once again invited to attend in full costume.
Later, Nanqi and Italy’s Fiat Group Iveco reached a cooperation to introduce the S series light vehicles. In 1996, Nanjing Iveco Automobile Co., Ltd. was put into operation. From the 90s of the 20th century to the present, Iveco Automobile has become one of the representatives of local automobiles in Nanjing.
In 2006, NAIC Group acquired the MG brand and production equipment of Rover Motors in United Kingdom, and began to produce MG brand automotive products in 2007.
In the same year, the “Shangyu-South Cooperation” kicked off. Through asset integration, New Nanqi became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SAIC Group. At the beginning of 2008, NAIC’s manufacturing was fully integrated into SAIC’s passenger car management system. At the same time, the base of Nanqi Jiangbei New Area began to develop into one of the important manufacturing bases of SAIC’s own brand vehicles.
After 19 years of hard work. Today, many classic and trendy models on the market are made here. At this year’s 2024 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition, the new SUV model Roewe D5X DMH produced at the base of Nanqi Jiangbei New Area was unveiled, which has a longer range and stronger power.
In January this year, the battery and new energy power technology plant project of Nanqi Jiangbei New Area Base started, and the first phase of the project will have an annual production capacity of more than 240,000 sets of batteries, and the installed capacity is expected to reach more than 10-13GWh.
