The third batch of Nanjing Geographical Names Cultural Heritage Protection List Announced! Zhongshan Wharf was selected!

A few days ago, the Nanjing Civil Affairs Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Urban and Rural Development Commission, the Nanjing Municipal Transportation Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and the Office of the Nanjing Local Chronicles Compilation Committee jointly issued a document to announce the third batch of Nanjing Geographical Names Cultural Heritage Protection List, and Zhongshan Wharf in Gulou District was selected.

In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), in order to ensure the smooth progress of Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s ceremony, the government of the Republic of China built the capital wharf of the Tianjin-Pudong Railway on the Xiaguan River. After the ceremony, in honor of Mr. Sun Yat-sen, the wharf was named Zhongshan Wharf.

Before the completion of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, Zhongshan Wharf is the only place for passenger and freight transportation on both sides of the strait, and Zhongshan Wharf and the Tianjin-Pudong railway line with Pukou as the end point, and the Shanghai-Nanjing line with Xiaguan as the end point, are connected into a traffic artery that runs through the north and south.

For the old Nanjing people, Zhongshan Wharf carries countless memories. Today, it is not only an important ferry port, but also a nostalgic spot for tourists.
