Nanjing Steel is everywhere
As the main enterprise of the iron and steel industry chain, Nangang has contributed to many major heavy equipment and super projects.
In the field of high-end shipbuilding, the world’s first 10,800-car LNG dual-fuel vehicle carrier GLOVIS LIGHTHOUSE steel plate is exclusively supplied by Nangang. Nangang has supplied more than ten of the world’s largest 24000TEU container ships with the largest market share in China.
Baihetan Hydropower Station, as a national major project of “power transmission from west to east”, the high-strength hydropower steel plates for key components such as hydraulic turbine seat ring, generator top cover, control ring, water diversion pressure pipe and steel switch pipe are all from Nangang.
Nangang provided 10,000 tons of rigid steel plates for “Blue Whale 1” and “Blue Whale 2” combustible ice drilling platforms; To provide pipeline plates for the east-route natural gas pipeline project of China and Russia; It also provided materials for the construction of several super bridge projects, such as the New Bay Bridge in the United States, the Peljesac cross-sea Bridge in Croatia, and the super Bridge of the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet.
Nanshan Iron and Steel is everywhere. Its steel not only supports the great power, but also sells abroad, showing the hard core strength of China’s steel manufacturing.
“Yuanye” redefined steelmaking
More than just exporting products, Nangang is leading changes in the steel industry.
At the “Yuanye” Ecological wisdom and Innovation Development Conference held not long ago, NISCO joined hands with steel enterprises, science and technology enterprises, universities and institutes, and industry associations to witness the application achievements and technological breakthroughs of NISCO’s “Yuanye” steel model one year after it was launched.
But let’s turn the clock back a year.
On June 21, 2025, the “Yuanye” steel large-scale model architecture and industrial intelligent platform jointly developed by NISCO and Huawei was released, which is the first industrial large-scale model in the domestic steel field.
At that time, both inside and outside the industry were full of curiosity and expectation. People are curious about how artificial intelligence technology can be integrated into industrial manufacturing, and also look forward to what kind of “chemical reaction” will be used to reshape the steel industry by the “Yuanye” jointly built by Nangang and Huawei.
The smelting process of steelmaking blast furnaces has long been regarded as a mysterious “black box”. How to judge the trend of furnace temperature and internal reaction depended on the rich experience of the old masters before the furnace. However, training such an expert is not easy, and it may take years to develop into a good BF foreman.
Now, after the “Yuanye” line, the logic has changed greatly.
“Using the ‘Yuan-metallurgical’ steel model, we are equivalent to the blast furnace equipped with a ‘perspective’.” Li Jinyan, director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Nangang, introduced.
Different from the general grand model, the meta-metallurgy is composed of two parts: the left brain for exact solving and the right brain for probability calculation.
In the intelligent operation center of NANGang, the whole process of iron ore entering the blast furnace from the yard, passing through the converter, and arriving at the rolling steel is decomposed into visual data points. Thousands of sensors inside the blast furnace transmit the steel-making process to the large screen in real time, in which every variable is accurately calculated and accurately extrapolated by the “Yuan smelting”.
For example, the accuracy of furnace temperature trend prediction within two hours is stable at more than 90%, which provides an important basis for each step of decision-making.
Today, Nangang builds the native three-layer paradigm of AI to create an intelligent life body in the steel industry. At the meeting, Nangang released 25 core business agents, covering the core scenarios of the whole process of research, production, marketing and management, and landing more than 200 lightweight AI applications.
Make friends with data
Huang Yanxin, Party secretary and chairman of Nangang, said: “In the past year, ‘Yuanye’ has successfully moved from technical architecture to standardized scene landing, and realized the leap from ‘technical exploration’ to ‘actual verification’.”
How to continue to build the “intellectual reform and transformation” of the steel industry, Nangang started from various aspects and handed over the new answer of “AI+ steel”.
First of all, NISCO is making every effort to promote the construction of trusted data space, which is the national trusted data space innovation pilot. High-quality data sets are the core and foundation of AI technology development, and directly determine the height of AI applications in the industry.
Nangang released the steel Trusted data space platform and the first batch of landing application scenarios. The goal of Nangang is very clear: to build a set of multi-party, unified rules in the steel industry “data sharing compound”. The data of all parties in the industry chain can realize collaborative operation and value co-creation, and at the same time strictly observe data security, so that the scattered data resources of the whole industry can be gathered into a force.
In this way, Nangang is not only a steel manufacturer, but also a provider of digital intelligence solutions.
At the same time, Nangang joined hands with like-minded partners to start in-depth docking cooperation between industry, education and research.

Not long ago, the national artificial intelligence application pilot base (metallurgical direction in the manufacturing field) jointly prepared by Nanshan Iron and Steel, Xingcheng Special Steel and China Steel Research Institute was launched in the new area, which is the only national pilot test platform in the metallurgical field of our country.
In this way, Nangang is accelerating from a “maker” to the “enabler” of the industry, so that the “model room” into “open”.
At present, NANGang has gathered more than 200 products and solutions, providing digital services for more than 2,000 enterprises in 22 industries.
