The urban functional quality in the southern part of the river
This initiative encompasses six major projects: establishing a 15-minute convenient living area, creating an ecological leisure park right at the doorstep, opening up green spaces through wall removal, resolving traffic congestion points, continuously aggregating prestigious educational resources, and promoting the deep integration of industrial functions with urban functions.
It is reported that the four grassroots community centers of Xinhe, Zhonghe, Longwang and Qing’ao will all commence construction this year. They are expected to be completed and put into use successively from 2028 to 2029.
In terms of ecological landscapes, the renovation of 7 pocket parks in the southern part of the river will be completed by September; the comprehensive improvement project of the popular scenes in the Yufei Wetland Park is expected to be completed by the end of this year; and the 4.4-kilometer riverside sports park along the Qinhuai River will be completed by the end of this year.
In terms of transportation, the project to connect the southern part of the river with the ring road expressway will commence in September; the renovation project of widening the Zhonghe Road from two-way four lanes to two-way six lanes will be completed by the end of the year. Additionally, there are also major transportation projects such as the Meizi Zhou Bridge and the second phase of the Metro Line 9.
At present, the “Southwest River Lighting Up” initiative has already achieved some initial results:
The renovation and improvement of five reserve plots, including the south side of Nanxiang Attached High School and the north side of Love Bay Ecological Park, have been completed.
The headquarters of JD’s digital economy in Nanjing has begun construction.
The Hesidikhi model is about to be officially launched.
The Jiangsu Digital Finance Industry Center project will hold its groundbreaking ceremony at the end of this month.
Su Jie School and Nanjing Science High School have officially settled in the Hexi Central Science and Technology Innovation Zone and will start accepting students and opening classes this autumn.
The accelerated and large-scale implementation of public facilities will bring about another upgrade in the livability index of the southern part of the river. This will bring multiple benefits to enterprises investing in the west area. The launch of the “Lighting Up” initiative has received praise from many development companies.
