On November 13, the Standing Committee of the Gulou District People’s Congress of Nanjing held the opening ceremony of the theme exhibition “Gulou Practice of the People’s Congress System” and the special edition of the “People’s Congress Representative Forum”. Long Xiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress, attended the event and delivered a speech. Yang Genping, Director of the Representative Working Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee, Xu Ming, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress, and Fang Zhongyou, Secretary-General, Han Feng, Deputy to the National People’s Congress, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of the School of Pharmacy of Nanjing Medical University, Cheng Dalin, Chen Zheng, and Yang Qinghua, Provincial People’s Congress representatives, Wang Anwei, Fang Jing, Lu Min, Zhang Kai, Ni Yiru, Lin Jian, Li Yan, Teng Xianzhong, and Wang Hongyun and Zhou Weibin, old leaders of the District People’s Congress Standing Committee, attended the event.
In his speech, Long Xiang pointed out that the theme exhibition focused on the vivid practice of democratic rule of law construction in Gulou District and the development process of the work of the People’s Congress, demonstrating the original intention of the people’s congress representatives at all levels in Gulou District to perform their duties with “people-centeredness”. He emphasized that the Gulou District People’s Congress and its Standing Committee and the majority of people’s congress representatives and people’s congress workers should adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, earnestly study and understand, and fully implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the meeting celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National People’s Congress, firmly grasp the correct political direction of the work of the People’s Congress, and continue to adhere to, improve, and operate the people’s congress system on the new journey; continuously strengthen and improve the work of the People’s Congress in the new era, and promote the implementation of various reform arrangements; carry out in-depth learning and practice activities of “remembering the instructions, being grateful and forging ahead”, better gather the collective wisdom and joint efforts of people’s congress representatives at all levels, and contribute to the new practice of Chinese-style modernization in Nanjing.
Wang Anwei, secretary of the district committee, said that from supporting revolution, construction, and reform, to devoting himself to “striving to create the best district and building a happy Gulou”, to helping high-quality development and modernization, the Gulou People’s Congress has always been a powerful promoter of all work in Gulou. The district committee will thoroughly implement the arrangements of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee on “improving the system of people’s democracy throughout the process”, and will continue to support and ensure that the district people’s congress, its standing committee, and representatives at all levels exercise their powers in accordance with the law, and create a good environment for the people’s congress to carry out its work.
When presiding over the opening ceremony, Lu Min, director of the district people’s congress standing committee, reviewed the preparation process of the theme exhibition and expressed that under the guidance of the superior people’s congress and the leadership of the district party committee, they will continue to work hard and strive to write a more vivid chapter of the times and capture more dazzling light and shadow of the times for the whole process of people’s democratic Drum Tower practice.
At the special edition of the “People’s Congress Representative Forum”, Ni Yiru, deputy director of the district people’s congress standing committee, delivered a speech. Han Feng, a member of the National People’s Congress, and eight other past and present representatives reviewed the glorious course of the people’s congress system, talked about the practice and thinking of grassroots people’s congress work, and shared their experience and insights in performing their duties.
During the event, leaders and guests visited the theme exhibition “Seventy Years of Magnificent Development, Stride into a New Era – Gulou Practice of the People’s Congress System”.
Some city and district people’s congress representatives, city and district people’s congress standing committee members, relevant special committees, and responsible persons from relevant district departments participated in the event.
