On the morning of April 16, Nanjing held a “5G Industrial Internet” integrated application pilot city promotion meeting. At the meeting, the work of “Nanjing to promote the upgrading and development of ‘5G Industrial Internet'” was officially launched, opening a new stage of development.
“5G Industrial Internet” refers to the use of a new generation of information and communication technology represented by 5G to build a new infrastructure, application mode and industrial ecology that is deeply integrated with the industrial economy, providing a new way to realize the digital, networked and intelligent development of industry and even industry, and helping enterprises to achieve cost reduction, quality improvement, efficiency increase, green and safe development.
In recent years, Nanjing has seized the development opportunity of “5G Industrial Internet” and built a total of 45,000 5G base stations, with 47 5G base stations per 10,000 people, ranking first in the province. 306 5G industry virtual private networks have been built, and more than 10 independent industrial private networks have been built by basic telecommunications enterprises and industrial enterprises. It has successfully cultivated 1 national double-cross platform, 9 national characteristic professional industrial Internet platforms and 27 provincial key industrial Internet platforms. A relatively complete “1 1 14” industrial Internet identification analysis system has been constructed, and the number of logo registrations and analysis ranks first in the country.
The infrastructure support is strong, and the industrial ecology is active. The city has built a total of 10 “5G industrial Internet” public service platforms, cultivated more than 100 key enterprises in the field of 5G, basically covering the upstream, middle and downstream of the industrial chain and supporting services, and the shipment of domestic brand industrial robots has remained the first in China for five consecutive years.
Industrial development is inseparable from innovation and leadership. According to the relevant departments of the city, the city has more than 1,000 national standards and intellectual property rights related to 5G and industrial Internet, and the research and development capabilities of Purple Mountain Laboratory in cutting-edge fields such as future networks and 6G are in a leading position in the industry, creating more than ten “world firsts” such as 6G terahertz real-time wireless transmission.
At present, the large-scale application of Nanjing’s “5G Industrial Internet” has achieved initial results. Among them, in terms of leading industrial applications, Nanjing’s new power equipment (smart grid) equipment, electronic information, steel, petrochemical and other fields of “5G industrial Internet” characteristics are remarkable, ZTE Binjiang factory was awarded the country’s first five-star 5G factory, Nanjing Iron and Steel and CRRC Puzhen 5G factory was selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Industrial Internet pilot demonstration, Yangzi Petrochemical “5G safe petrochemical” and ZTE “5G intelligent logistics” two projects were selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology “5G Industrial Internet” 20 typical application scenarios, key industry practice cases.
At present, the innovation and development of Nanjing’s “5G Industrial Internet” has entered the fast lane. 01
In November 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the 2024 “5G Industrial Internet” integrated application pilot cities, and the first batch of pilot cities includes 10 cities: Nanjing, Wuhan, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Shenyang, and Chengdu.

At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the “Implementation Plan for Building the Upgraded Version of the 512 Project of “5G Industrial Internet”, proposing to accelerate the integration of 5G and industrial equipment, create a batch of “small, fast, light and accurate” industrial 5G terminal equipment, and enhance product supply.
